Our Story
The Reno High Robotics Club was created in the Fall of 2017, one year after Reno High School adopted its new Civil Engineering & Architecture program. The Reno High Robotics Club and its competitive teams were established by a small group of driven students to be an outlet for their desire to build, create, share ideas, and put their knowledge to the test.
Members opted to participate in the VEX Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (REC) VRC League. Soon after, Teams 395X and 395Y (formerly 18792X) were created and joined the small handful of REC VRC teams in Northern Nevada. As these were the only REC VRC registered in Northern Nevada at the time, the Reno High Robotics Club had to travel out of state to compete. At their first event at the Head Royce School in Oakland, California, the Teams faced many veteran teams, and even some former world champions. While Reno High’s robots, Scrappy I and Scrappy II did not place at the top of the field, the Club had a blast meeting other teams, trading ideas, and learned that Scrappy could also double as a pizza delivery system. Since that first event, the club has continued to grow, expanded its design and programming capabilities. The Reno High Robotics Club now hosts its own tournaments to give the growing number of teams in Northern Nevada opportunities to compete, meet other robotics students, share ideas, and try out there designs. Additionally, the Reno High Robotics Club competes annually in the SkillsUSA Mobile Robotics Competition. At its core however, the Reno High Robotics Club has maintained its emphasis on fun and creating robotics for the challenge, instead focusing solely on competition. We hope to see you on the field! |
